Suburban Seahawks Club

WELCOME SWIM TEAM:

The Suburban Seahawks Club welcomes all new and returning swimmers to another successful swim season. The purpose of this letter is to provide information that may be useful to the membership. If you have any questions, you may contact Diane Mastrangelo in the following ways:

Office: 610-325-3175

Check the website: www.sscswim.org

Email me: sscswim@yahoo.com

Payment Policy:

  • Session fees are expected by January 28, 2012 but due no later than January 30, 2012, our first day of practice.
  • There will be no pro-ration of session fees, except for medical reasons which will require documentation from the attending physician.
  • There will be no refunds given for any reason.

Practice Policy:

Please be aware that your swimmer is to swim in the practice group they were assigned to at the beginning of each session. The coaching staff will notify a swimmer and their parents if a change in practice group is warranted based on their re-evaluation of the swimmer’s ability. There is a difference in practice fees when such a move occurs and the parents will be emailed the pro-rated practice fee due.

If you need to communicate with a coach, you may leave a message with Diane or leave a note in the team box. NO PARENTS WILL BE PERMITTED ON DECK DURING PRACTICES. This is a liability issue and a violation of Middle Atlantic Swimming rules.

Electronic Newsletter:

Our electronic newsletter is the best way to stay informed about the SSC happenings. You can take advantage of this service by making sure that Katherine McClelland has your e-mail address. If you are not getting the e-news and would like to receive it, please e-mail Katherine at sscseahawks@gmail.com.

Practice Cancellations:

Practices cancelled in the event of an emergency or due to inclement weather will be posted on the website and if there is sufficient time, an email will be sent to all members.

Website:

Please visit our website at www.sscswim.org for more information about the team and to view our Coach bios. Clicking on the link for Team Unify at the bottom of our home page will take you to our online registration module for meets and session registrations.

Team Effort Meets:

Team effort meets will be available for entry on our Team Unify website which is accessible through our Suburban Seahawks website at www.sscswim.org. It is up to the individual swimmer and/or parent to make the decision which meets to attend. Please pay particular attention to the meet entry deadline on Team Unify.  Entries received after the deadline will require a $10.00 late fee.  You must enter all team effort meets through the Team Unify online meet registration module. Any parent who enters a TEAM EFFORT meet independently must do so as an UNATTACHED SWIMMER not as Attached to SSC. We have received several complaints from meet directors of other clubs because SSC parents have entered meets independently that we are attending as a team. This creates additional work for the meet directors.

A reminder that all inquiries regarding the status of meet entries, meet format changes, timelines,  etc.  must be directed to Diane at sscswim@yahoo.com.  No parent should ever directly contact the host Meet Director.  Your cooperation is appreciated!

Volunteer Recruitment:

There are several BIG meets that are selected as Team Effort Meets for the swim team. Please know that if you elect to submit your entry form for one of these meets through Diane, you will be asked, expected, and required to volunteer your time in the positions assigned to the team. These meets include the Fall Classic, TYR Cup, Elite Meet, Junior Olympics, Senior Champs, and several other Middle Atlantic Swimming hosted meets. IF you think you cannot meet this volunteer requirement then please DO NOT sign up to enter these meets through Diane but do so on your own as an UNATTACHED swimmer. In doing so, please note that your swimmer will NOT be eligible to swim in a team relay for SSC.

To provide you with some background, the hosting meet directors of these meets assign each team with a number of slots to fill in pre-selected positions. The number of slots a team is assigned is directly related to the number of swimmers Diane enters in the meet. It is very unfair to have to depend on the same families each time to adequately fill these volunteer slots while other families never step up. A reminder that these slots must be completely filled PRIOR to notifying me of your intention to officiate. Also know that if a volunteer is assigned who doesn’t show up for the position that was assigned to him or her, a coach will be recruited to fill their slot. If a coach has to fill a parent’s slot, who will coach your child? We will accomplish much if we all work together – remember, we do this for our swimmers!
